Dear Editor,
It surprises me to read The Sun and see that Save Our Seal Beach is getting all the attention in the three-story issue. The truth is that most of the people living in Old Town do not want third stories, and saving Old Town certainly does not mean allowing more three-story buildings. No one wants a tall building next door. A few people like building three story apartments and condos, but as for living next to a large three-story building, no thanks. Who wants to live next to a three-story building, anyway?
Seal Beach For Two Stories was started to keep building heights limited to just that – two stories in Old Town. Since the City Council has rescinded the two-story law in February, we are back to where we started – huge three-story buildings. Seal Beach For Two Stories is offering a compromise of a smaller third story. Even the smallest third story invades neighbors’ sunlight and privacy and reduces the neighbors’ property values, so we are going a long way toward a compromise by talking about any third story at all.
Remember two important things. First, a large majority of Old Town residents do not want any third story buildings. Second, the revised zoning ordinances can be written to limit the third-story size in Old Town future construction.
No oversized third story buildings should ever again be allowed in Old Town. We are not going to save Seal Beach by building it taller.
Sincerely,
Warren Morton
